Why This Wine?

If you've been reading these blog posts, you've probably figured out that my comfort zone has always been dry California Cabernet Sauvignon.

Rosé is a much newer adventure for me.

One of the biggest surprises this summer has been realizing that "rosé" doesn't really describe a style of wine at all. It's a massive category. Some are sweet and some are dry. Some are still and some are sparkling. Some are rich and creamy. Some are fruit-forward. Some have enough body to feel almost like a light red. Others are delicate and refreshing.

Delicate is not something I gravitate towards. But this rosé in this disgusting midwestern July heat has me thinking differently.

I've found myself reaching for it all summer long.

What to Look For

Look for fresh strawberry, watermelon, raspberry, citrus zest, and subtle floral notes.

This is a beautifully dry rosé with bright acidity and a light and refreshing body.

If you've only experienced sweeter rosés—or you've assumed all rosés taste about the same—this bottle might surprise you.

Something I Learned

Before opening this bottle, I had been reading about Monastrell and understood it as a bold, deeply colored red grape. To be honest, I don't think I've tried a Monastrell unless it has been part of a blend. Given my understanding of Monastrell, I expected a rosé with a little more weight.

Instead, it was whisper light. And shockingly, I LOVED it!

A few weeks ago I wrote about the Belle Glos Rosé, and I still absolutely love it. It has a lot more texture, a rounder mouthfeel, and probably fits the style I would've told you was "my favorite" just a few weeks ago.

But Honoro Vera Rosé isn't trying to be that wine.

It's lighter.

Crisper.

More delicate.

And honestly...that's exactly why I've kept reaching for it.

When it's ninety degrees outside, I don't necessarily want richness. I want something refreshing enough that I immediately want another sip.

This bottle completely changed my expectations—not only of what a Monastrell rosé could be, but of what I actually enjoy drinking in the middle of summer.

Pair With

Fresh tomatoes, grilled shrimp, fish tacos, goat cheese, charcuterie, watermelon salad, sushi, light pastas, or simply a shady spot on the patio after work.

At Fisk, I'd happily enjoy it with one of our charcuterie boards or just a bowl of Marcona almonds and good conversation.

What Other People Are Tasting

Fresh strawberry, raspberry, citrus, delicate floral aromas, crisp acidity, and a clean, dry finish.
